Earlier, Cosmic Book News reported on the fan response to the announcement that Ben Affleck is the new Batman, which included the launching of dozens of petitions with one going so far as to demand that President Obama make it illegal.

Now the fandom has apparently gone to a whole different level as reports are surfacing from Facebook that fans are actually leaving death threats in their pms and messages.

One Facebook page in particular mentions that there have been death threats regarding Ben Affleck as Batman with the Man of Steel Fan Page on Facebook having to turn of private messages and notifying their almost 250,000 members to keep it cool.

They write:

It’s quite another, and totally unwarranted, to message death threats to the page admins over it.

…to make a threat of violence against any person is completely unacceptable and it diminishes the credibility of ALL superhero genre fans and dismisses you all into a non-relevant “lunatic” category.

…have turned off private messaging this morning. We have no plans of when it might be turned back on again. If you don’t like a casting choice, please find respectful ways, non-violent ways of expressing it.

The page continues with mention they don’t think the threats are credible and mentions “being hateful is not the answer,” which is some sound advice.

The sequel to “Man of Steel” goes into production next year for a July 17, 2015 release also starring Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
