An announcement of galactic proportions was made at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige with the Guardians of the Galaxy movie slated for an August 1, 2014 release.
Concept art was released which featured the likes of fan-favorite characters Drax The Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora.
Of course, comic book fans recognize these Guardians of the Galaxy from the 2008 comic book of the same name from Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.
The book, which saw a 25 issue run that led up to the successful and critically acclaimed The Thanos Imperative, saw a group of rag-tag space dwellers come together to stave off threats to the galaxy and save the universe.
So with the big announcement at Comic-Con, Cosmic Book News reached out via e-mail to our friends Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, collectively known as DnA, and asked for a comment on the Guardians of the Galaxy movie announcement.
Dan and I are really excited to see the Guardians of the Galaxy make it to the big screen, especially as it would appear to be the iteration of the team established during our run on the title. We will be eager to see the film along with all the fans of cosmic stories.
One thing we’d like to go on the record with is that we owe a huge debt of thanks to the great stories of our predecessors, in particular, Jim Starlin and Keith Giffen, these guys are the giants on whom we stood.
Beyond that, we’re sorry but we really don’t know anything, so we can’t make any further comment.
