UPDATE: The trailer did 77 million views in its first 24 hours, per Deadline, quadrupling the record for a re-release trailer.
Marvel put the Avengers: Endgame Encore trailer online with tickets going on sale, and it took fans about an hour to notice the movie doesn’t look the way it did in 2019.
Side-by-side comparisons pulled from the trailer and set against the Disney+ version started circulating overnight, and the difference isn’t subtle.
Encore is brighter, warmer, and considerably more saturated.
The comparison set, originally posted by Marvel Spoiler on X and boosted past 60,000 likes by another account, runs through the movie’s signature shots.
Thanos marching through the ruins of the compound. Wanda floating in a field of red. Cap versus Cap on the Stark Tower catwalk. The Avengers assembled in the compound lounge. Tony with the Stones on his gauntlet.
Thanos Is Purple Again
The Thanos shot is the clearest example. In 2019 he reads as a gray-brown silhouette against a hazy background.
In the Encore version the contrast is cranked, the fires behind him burn orange instead of beige, and Thanos himself is visibly purple, closer to how he looks on a comic page than how he looked in the theater seven years ago.
The Scarlet Witch shot gets the same treatment. Her chaos magic went from a dull red glow to something that actually lights the wreckage around her.
The compound lounge scene, which was flat and dim in the original, now has daylight coming through the windows and separation between the characters standing in it.
And the Spider-Man shot in front of the burning debris field goes from smoky white haze to a genuine orange firestorm.
This lands on one of the only real craft complaints Endgame ever took.
The movie was called flat, muddy, and desaturated, drowned in brown and gray during its biggest sequence. Marvel spent years absorbing that criticism across the whole slate. Now, quietly, on a re-release nobody demanded, the studio appears to have gone back and fixed it.
What’s Confirmed And What Isn’t
Marvel has said nothing about a regrade. Everything here comes from fans comparing a trailer to a streaming file, and there are two reasons to hold the confetti.
Trailers get their own color pass. Marketing routinely juices contrast and saturation on cut-downs, and that grade does not always survive into the feature.
Beyond that, some of the comparison images making the rounds have been through unknown hands before they hit a timeline, and adjusted screenshots are not evidence.
The honest read is that the trailer is unmistakably regraded and the movie probably is too, and September 25 settles it either way.
What’s worth sitting with is the reaction. A re-release of a seven-year-old movie that most people already own has fans arguing about color science and saying the new version looks better.
That is not an audience tired of superheroes. That’s an audience that notices when the work improves, which has been the whole argument here for years.
There’s also a forward-looking question in it. If Encore is the debut title for Disney’s Infinity Vision certification, a punchier grade is exactly what you’d build to show off a format sold on brightness and contrast. Doomsday would inherit that look in December.
Avengers: Endgame Encore tickets are on sale now ahead of the September 25 release. The re-release also carries two separate Doomsday previews, and a rumor claims Cassie Lang’s scene was reshot with Kathryn Newton.
