A big Avengers: Endgame Encore rumor claims Marvel went back and reshot Cassie Lang’s scene with Kathryn Newton, replacing Emma Fuhrmann to create “greater continuity to the Young Avengers narrative.”
Nothing about the claim is confirmed, and it comes from an account on X, so treat it accordingly.
The scene itself runs well under a minute. Scott Lang returns from the Quantum Realm after five years, finds the memorial wall, and then discovers his daughter is alive — now a teenager — waiting for him.
Fuhrmann played Cassie in the scene, which delivers one of Endgame‘s biggest emotional beats and sets up everything Scott does from there.
Marvel Has Already Recast Cassie Lang Twice
Abby Ryder Fortson played Cassie in the first two Ant-Man movies. When Endgame jumped five years into the future, Marvel needed an older actress and cast Fuhrmann.
Then Marvel recast Cassie again.
Kathryn Newton was announced for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, replacing Fuhrmann after a single MCU appearance.
Peyton Reed’s explanation at the time was that the expanded role required someone who could hold the screen opposite Paul Rudd. Fuhrmann has not appeared in the MCU since.
Newton confirmed her Doomsday return on Instagram following Marvel’s CinemaCon presentation, and she’s also on the leaked Doomsday cast list.
Why Marvel Might Make The Change
Marvel’s motive is easy to see.
Endgame Encore now sits between two MCU appearances where Newton is Cassie.
Putting Fuhrmann back on the big screen in September, only three months before Newton returns in Doomsday, creates an obvious continuity hiccup for casual audiences.
The problem is that Marvel has branded Encore as a re-release, not a director’s cut.
The confirmed additions total four minutes, and cutting an actress out of one of Endgame‘s emotional scenes to clean up a casting decision Marvel made years later would invite exactly the reaction you’d expect.
Then There Is The “Young Avengers” Problem
The most interesting part of the rumor may actually be the phrase “Young Avengers narrative,” because Marvel appears to have quietly moved away from that name.

After we pointed out that the actors Marvel had assembled for a supposed Young Avengers project weren’t particularly young — Dominique Thorne and Hailee Steinfeld were both pushing 30, and Steinfeld is now a mom — the scoopers came back saying Marvel had renamed the project Champions.
Newton is 29.
Whatever Marvel eventually calls this team, she isn’t going to be a “young Avenger” by the time the project actually exists.
Marvel Still Hasn’t Made The Team Work
That’s what would make the alleged Endgame reshoot more than a simple casting cleanup.
If Marvel really went back into a 2019 movie and replaced an actress for the sake of continuity with a team-up project that has already been renamed once because its cast was aging out of the premise, it says plenty about how badly the studio still wants this group to happen, and how little it has to show for it so far.
The project has already been rumored as canceled. Thorne’s Ironheart has its own problems. Kate Bishop hasn’t been seen since the final scene of The Marvels in 2023. Cassie’s last appearance came in Quantumania, a movie that stalled at $476 million and, in part, helped trigger the MCU reset.
These are essentially rejected characters left over from Marvel’s failed post-Endgame approach, still waiting for the team-up that was supposed to make all of it lead somewhere.
Reshooting half a minute of Endgame doesn’t fix that.
Avengers: Endgame Encore tickets are on sale now ahead of the September 25 release. Fans have also spotted a full color regrade in the trailer, and the re-release carries two separate Doomsday previews.
