A camera operator who says he shot every episode of Amazon MGM’s Criminal is publicly defending Ed Brubaker against the lawsuit filed this week.
Former production assistant Ijaaz Noohu sued Brubaker, Amazon MGM, and Big Indie Pictures on Wednesday, accusing the showrunner of harassment and of pointing a working gun at his face.
The defense comes from Matt Moriarty, who posted in the comments of Deadline’s story on the lawsuit Wednesday night.
“I was the camera operator on every episode of this show plus a week of pickups in 2025,” he wrote, “and in my opinion this lawsuit is 100% garbage.”
Moriarty says he has made almost 100 movies over 42 years and calls Brubaker “one of the kindest, gentlest, most big-hearted guys” he has ever seen on a film set.
The idea that Brubaker would intentionally hurt someone on his crew is “inconceivable” to him.
He also went right at the gun claim, the most serious accusation in the suit.
“And the gun thing? Good lord,” he wrote, saying that in six months on the show he “never saw a gun be remotely mishandled.”
“The whole thing just stinks,” he added.

Moriarty Is The President Of The Society Of Camera Operators
The comment lines up with a real Criminal crew member. IMDb credits Matthew Moriarty as the show’s A camera and Steadicam operator.
His resume includes Spider-Man, Aquaman, A Quiet Place Part II, The Conjuring 2, and FX’s Alien: Earth.
Moriarty was elected president of the Society of Camera Operators in 2023. He also spent 12 years on the national board of IATSE Local 600, the union that represents camera crews.
In other words, one of the most respected camera operators in the business is calling the lawsuit garbage.
The comment itself hasn’t been officially verified as coming from Moriarty.

Brubaker has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. Amazon MGM declined to comment to THR, and Big Indie didn’t respond.
Criminal, based on the crime comics from Brubaker and artist Sean Phillips, is Brubaker’s first series as showrunner. Production is complete, and Amazon MGM has yet to announce a premiere date.
