Warner Bros. has moved Dynamic Duo, the animated Robins movie, from June 30, 2028 to September 22, 2028, per Deadline.
The studio’s stated reason is that late September makes for a good back-to-school window for an animated movie, one Warner Bros. believes can draw the Spider-Verse audience of teens and college kids.
Our sources have been saying for months that the incoming Paramount regime is building Warner Bros. around Matt Reeves while James Gunn’s DC Studios sits quiet.
This date change fits that picture on every level.
Dynamic Duo follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the two Robins, and mixes puppets with animation.
The movie comes from Reeves’ 6th & Idaho production company, with a script by Matthew Aldrich, and is being made by Swaybox, a new animation studio out of New Orleans. Swaybox co-founder Arthur Mintz directs.
Jeff Sneider’s InSneider newsletter recently reported the voice cast: Mason Thames as Dick Grayson, Logan Kim as Jason Todd, Lee Pace as Red Hood One, and Steve Buscemi as Red Hood 2.

Right Off Paramount’s Call of Duty Date
Deadline reports the date changes are unrelated to the pending merger with Paramount.
The very same article notes the move takes Dynamic Duo off the date of Paramount’s Call of Duty movie, which opens June 30, 2028, and that no Paramount movie is set for September 22, 2028.
The $111 billion merger is set to close by early October. So right before Paramount takes over, Warner Bros. moved its animated DC movie out of the way of Paramount’s big screen Call of Duty adaptation.
Deadline chalks it up to coincidence.
The same announcement also pushed Gremlins 3 back nearly a year to October 6, 2028. Full details on that move here.

Spider-Verse Movies Don’t Open In September
Then there is the back-to-school pitch.
None of the movies Warner Bros. (or Deadline) is invoking ever opened anywhere near a school calendar.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opened December 14, 2018. Across the Spider-Verse opened June 2, 2023. Beyond the Spider-Verse is dated for June 18, 2027.
December and June. Those are the windows where studios put animated movies they believe in.
Studios do not move a movie they think is Spider-Verse big out of summer and into late September. Late September is where mid-sized animated movies get parked.

Deadline Never Mentions Matt Reeves
Deadline calls Dynamic Duo “the first joint project between DC Studios and the Bill Damaschke-led WBPA,” meaning Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, the studio’s animation label.
The article credits 6th & Idaho. It never once names the man who runs 6th & Idaho: The Batman director Matt Reeves.
Our Paramount sources recently described Gunn’s DC Studios as “a ghost town.”
We’re also told Dynamic Duo and Clayface, in theaters October 23, are Reeves projects that got placed under the DC Studios banner when David Zaslav handed DC to Gunn.
Look at what Warner Bros. has actually done lately.
Reeves and 6th & Idaho just re-upped their Warner Bros. Television deal. Gunn got no new deal, and his contract expires in 2027.
Warner Bros. also moved The Batman Part II to February 18, 2028, off its October 2027 date, putting more room between Reeves’ movie and Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, which opens July 9, 2027.
Don’t forget the same studio put Minecraft 2 only two weeks after MOT, as well.
Back in August, our sources said David Ellison is “going all in” on Batman and “really high on Reeves,” and that the Arkham Asylum series Reeves originally planned at HBO, shelved when Gunn’s DCU came in, is back on.
The release calendar and our sources keep saying the same thing. Warner Bros. is being built around Matt Reeves.
