Disney+ has added a “Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday” collection featuring 15 Marvel movies and shows.
The lineup pulls from the MCU, Fox’s X-Men films and Loki, but three omissions jump out: The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and every Thor movie.
The Disney+ row looks less like a complete homework list and more like Marvel’s preferred road to Doomsday.
It keeps the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Loki and the multiverse front and center while quietly leaving some of Marvel’s biggest post-Endgame problem titles behind.
The 15 Disney+ Avengers: Doomsday Picks
The collection currently includes:
- Captain America: Brave New World
- Deadpool & Wolverine
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- Thunderbolts*
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps
- Avengers: Endgame
- Loki
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
- Spider-Man: No Way Home
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
- X-Men
- X2
- Captain America: The First Avenger
- The Avengers
- Avengers: Infinity War
Loki is the only Disney+ series in the row. That means no WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, The Marvels, Agatha, and even Daredevil: Born Again.
The two original Fox X-Men movies make the cut, joining newer multiverse titles such as Deadpool & Wolverine and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Marvels Is Missing Despite Its X-Men Setup
The biggest omission is The Marvels, the lowest-grossing MCU movie of all time with $206 million worldwide.
The movie may have bombed, but its mid-credits scene looks directly connected to the kind of multiverse collision Doomsday is selling.
Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau wakes in an alternate universe and comes face-to-face with Kelsey Grammer’s Beast and Lashana Lynch’s Binary. Beast also references Charles Xavier.
Grammer is officially in Avengers: Doomsday, while Disney+ included both X-Men and X2 in the countdown. Marvel is promoting the X-Men side of the story while skipping the movie that placed an MCU hero inside an X-Men reality.
Let’s also not forget that Feige made Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel the first mutant in the MCU. At D23, much like in the Disney+ Avengers: Doomsday countdown, Ms. Marvel was nowhere to be found in the X-Men casting announcement.
There is still no official word that Brie Larson, Iman Vellani or Parris will appear in Doomsday.
Disney did recently confirm Larson and Vellani for its upcoming Avengers Campus attractions. Larson returns as Captain Marvel for Stark Flight Lab, while Vellani’s Ms. Marvel handles the Avengers Infinity Defense pre-mission briefing.
Robert Downey Jr. also returns as Iron Man for the rides, even though he plays Doctor Doom in Doomsday. The attractions appear to sit outside the main MCU continuity or use their own multiverse rules.
Quantumania and Kang Have Been Left Behind
Quantumania is another glaring absence. The movie was built to establish Kang as the Multiverse Saga’s next Thanos and lead into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Instead, the film underperformed, Kang was beaten by Ant-Man, and Marvel eventually replaced The Kang Dynasty with Avengers: Doomsday and brought back Downey as Doctor Doom.
Reports initially connected the course correction to Quantumania’s reception and Jonathan Majors’ legal problems.
Kevin Feige later said Marvel had already decided Kang was not big enough to carry the saga and began discussing Doom with Downey before Ant-Man 3 opened.
Disney+ still includes Loki, which featured He Who Remains and Victor Timely, but the series also remains important because Tom Hiddleston is officially returning for Doomsday. The TVA will also be featured, and Marvel recently brought back Miss Minutes at D23.
Quantumania now looks like the chapter Marvel would rather skip.
No Thor Movies Despite Hemsworth’s Return
Chris Hemsworth is officially in Doomsday, yet Disney+ did not include Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok or Thor: Love and Thunder.
Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame cover major parts of Thor’s story, while Loki keeps the Asgard side represented.
Love and Thunder is the most obvious title Marvel may want to move past. The film’s heavy comedy drew a major fan backlash, and Hemsworth later admitted he became a parody of himself and did not stick the landing.
Rumors surrounding Thor 5 have pointed to a darker, more serious approach without Taika Waititi. Doomsday also appears to be pushing Thor back toward a more dramatic tone.
What The Disney+ List Signals
The countdown appears to be built around the teams and characters Marvel wants viewers thinking about before Doomsday: the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Fox X-Men, Thunderbolts/New Avengers, Wakanda, Shang-Chi and Loki.
The missing titles tell their own story.
Marvel is keeping the pieces of the Multiverse Saga it still finds useful while leaving The Marvels, Quantumania and Love and Thunder off the official countdown.
The lineup also fits a wider shift we have been tracking, with Hollywood now courting the same fans it spent years brushing aside.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters December 18, 2026.
