David Tennant isn’t done with the Fourteenth Doctor, and he’s not pretending otherwise.
In the same Doctor Who Magazine interview where he floated the idea of a tender bid built around “a particular performer”, Tennant says he’s open to playing Fourteen again, with more of the interview surfaced via the David Tennant Facebook page.
The timing is loud, as the comments land while Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment eyes a bid reportedly built around bringing Tennant back.
‘I’m open to anything that’s suggested’
“I’m open to anything that’s suggested, to be honest. It’s fun to dip a toe back in these worlds,” Tennant said.
He was even surprised to learn Fourteen has been kept out of spin-off media: “It’s interesting, I didn’t know that there was a sort of embargo on any other worlds for that particular strain of the character.”
And he offered a reminder of how these things escalate.
His 60th anniversary return started as loose talk of one standalone story that went quiet, until Russell T Davies called six months later asking him to come back and be part of the ongoing story instead.
‘Hard to imagine that’s where it would end’
Thanks to the bi-generation, Fourteen retired to Earth with Donna’s family, alive with a TARDIS of his own.
Tennant doesn’t quite buy it as an ending.
“It’s hard to imagine that’s where it would end, isn’t it?” he said, before adding with what the magazine described as a broad grin: “And yet that does seem to be where it’s ended. So, I guess he’s just enjoying Bonnie Langford’s tray bakes. Who wouldn’t?”
So the ready-made relaunch button the franchise has been sitting on just got the actor’s blessing.
A living Doctor, on Earth, with his own TARDIS, played by the most popular star of the modern era, who is “open to anything that’s suggested.” Whoever wins the tender inherits that option for free.
