The Dark Knight Rises (2012): Prologue Confirmed For 70MM IMAX Only; Released Digitally In Summer

[page_title]

The 6 minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will be attached to the premiere of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol on December 16th in the U.S.

However, as Cosmic Book News told you previously, the prologue will only be viewable at theaters equipped with 70MM IMAX cameras.

Basically, this means a whole heck of a lot of people are going to miss out, as the majority of theaters are Digital IMAX only.

Well, until it hits the net.

We get confirmation from Paul Franklin via twitter, Christopher Nolan’s VFX guru, that the prologue will have a limited IMAX release as it will appear “*only* in theatres with a proper film projector – no digital!” However, Franklin does go on to tweet that the prologue will eventually be released on Digital IMAX come Summer 2012.

In addition, Franklin links to the list of International 70MM IMAX theaters, with Cosmic Book News previously providing the U.S. list as well.

Franklin also confirms that a full trailer will be released this Christmas. It’s speculated that the trailer is attached to the sequel to Sherlock Holmes.
