[[wysiwyg_imageupload:799:]]Here is a small tidbit of news on The Dark Knight Rises to share regarding the costumes and look of Bane, Batman and Bruce Wayne.
GQ Magazine recently hunted down Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming to get the inside scoop on how the characters of the latest Batman movie were put together.
Hemming first mentions Bane, the villain of the movie, as played by actor Tom Hardy,
“Bane was meant to look like a cross between a dictator and a revolutionary,” Hemming told GQ. “I designed the coat myself – it took a year. We took inspiration from a Swedish army jacket and a French Revolution frock coat and amalgamated the two. It was a pain to have made, because in LA shearling is not their sort of thing: there weren’t the tailors who could work with the fabric. It’s funny: as soon as it was finished, GQ did a feature about shearling coats, so it looked like I had copied you!”
Next up we learn that playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne will retain the look from the previous movies.
“Christian Bale was in Armani in the last film and I used Armani again for character reasons. Bruce Wayne is himself playing a part: that of a wealthy man who owns an enormous company and so a luxury brand like Armani seemed the right choice,” said Hemming.
So what about Batman?! Lemming does hint at a few changes, but can say no more.
“There’s very few changes. The only modifications are to do with the story. But I can’t tell you what they are…”
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, 2012 and is directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Michael Cain as Alfred, Juno Temple and Josh Pence as a young Ra’s al Ghul.
