With The Dark Knight Rises wrapping up production in November, this saw Christopher Nolan’s journey through the Batman mythos come to a tentative end (as it is rumored he still may be involved producing a Justice League Movie).
However, what can be said, is that Nolan’s days helming the Caped Crusader are behind him.
Speaking with the LA Times Hero Complex, Nolan admitted that there is an emotional attachment to the movie, especially with The Dark Knight Rises being the last. However, in the end, when all is said and done, Nolan thinks it will have been worth everyone’s time and effort.
“I tend not to be too emotional on the set, I find that doesn’t help me do my job. But you definitely get a little lump in your throat thinking that, ‘OK, this is going to be the last time we’re going to be doing this.’ It’s been quite a journey. Hopefully, reflecting that journey — by all of us who made the films — in the three films together will make it so they have a real span to them, some real heft.”
Nolan continues with remarks on saying goodbye to the various characters including Michael Caine’s Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, even Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, and of course Christian Bale as Batman, who also recently commented on this being his last Batman movie.
It was pretty emotional as we would finish these characters and say goodbye to Alfred for the last time and say goodbye to Commissioner Gordon and eventually, with Christian, fairly close to the end, saying goodbye to Batman … it was a big deal,” Nolan said. “And with these newer characters too, finishing with Anne and all these guys. It was quite touching, I must say.”
Nolan also talks about choosing the character of Bane, shooting the 6 minute Prologue and more at the Hero Complex.
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, 2012 and is directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Michael Cain as Alfred, Juno Temple and Josh Pence as a young Ra’s al Ghul.
