Zach Cregger’s next movie just got its most revealing description yet, from the director himself.
Asked about The Flood during his live Resident Evil AMA on r/movies, Cregger said the film is “not quite as horror central as the other movies,” then immediately pulled it back: it “might be the most unsettling,” and it “does have horror moments and aspects.”
He even flagged his own hedging mid-answer with “(this answer sucks)” before getting to the real point.
That real point: the movie is one of three scripts from the same run.
“After Barbarian I wrote Weapons and Resident Evil and Flood in kind of a burst of activity,” Cregger wrote. “Those 3 movies were all ready to go — in fact there was a world I could have shot Flood first. I had 3 movies and I was trying to get whichever one was ready to go. So they’re kind of like 3 peas in a pod to me. And when you see them all I think you’ll get the energy that I was dealing with at the time.”

Unsettling Is Not How Warner Bros. Billed It
The “unsettling” line also lands differently than the official description.
Warner Bros. and New Line announced The Flood at CinemaCon in April as an original sci-fi thriller dated August 11, 2028, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin producing alongside Vertigo Entertainment.
The project moved there after originally being set up at Netflix, which wouldn’t commit to a theatrical release.
Cregger keeps describing it in horror terms anyway. At Comic-Con he called it structurally unique, saying he can’t think of another movie like it.
