Coyote vs. Acme Tracking Flatlines: Zero Movement As Ketchup’s Window Shrinks

Coyote vs. Acme Tracking Flatlines: Zero Movement As Ketchup’s Window Shrinks

Two weeks ago, we wrote that the next tracking chart would tell us whether Ketchup Entertainment did its part.

The chart is in. The answer is two zeros.

The Quorum’s new eight-week tracking, published by Puck, has Coyote vs. Acme at 27 percent awareness and 41 percent interest, both scores unchanged from two weeks ago, with the August 28 release now three and a half weeks out.

Not one point of awareness gained. Roughly three in four moviegoers still don’t know the film they saved is actually coming to theaters.

The demand, to be clear, is still sitting right there. The 14-point gap between interest and awareness remains one of the widest on the board, the same signal that’s held since we first covered the tracking. When people hear this movie exists, they want to see it.

The people just aren’t hearing it.

The Quorum polls everyday moviegoers on upcoming releases every two weeks, measuring awareness (have you heard of it?) and interest (do you want to see it?). It measures actual public demand, not studio math.

Everything Around It Moved

The flatline stands out because the rest of the board didn’t sit still.

The End of Oak Street jumped another six points of awareness as Warner Bros.’ campaign keeps firing. One Night Only gained seven. Lionsgate’s Mutiny gained five. The Uprising put up eight points in both columns.

Of the sixteen films tracked, only two posted zero movement in both columns: Coyote vs. Acme and Practical Magic 2.

The difference is that Practical Magic 2 is a Warner Bros. legacy sequel that can coast on a beloved title. A shelved-and-rescued animation hybrid at 27 percent awareness cannot coast on anything.

The Fans Already Did Their Part

The history hasn’t changed. Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the completed film for a tax write-off, the backlash forced its sale, and Ketchup picked it up for a reported $50 million with a trailer that leaned all the way into “The Film Acme Didn’t Want You to See.”

It’s the pattern we’ve documented for years: Hollywood blames the fans, and this time the fans saved the movie outright. That 41 percent interest number is those fans, still on the record, still waiting.

The demand curve has now held all summer without a major studio spending a dollar behind it. What it hasn’t done, in two full chart cycles, is grow.

That’s the whole story with 24 days left: the audience built the opportunity, and Ketchup is running out of runway to convert the loudest underdog story in Hollywood into ticket sales.

The receipt is still printable. Someone has to hit the button.

Coyote vs. Acme opens in theaters August 28, directed by Dave Green and starring Will Forte and John Cena, with James Gunn among the producers. For the full chart, see our summer tracking roundup.
