With yesterday's big news that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm and Star Wars from George Lucas in addition to the announcement of Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015, fans have been theorizing what story would be featured.
The best guess was that Episode 7 would adapt the novels that revealed what took place about 5 years after Return of the Jedi, the Thrawn Trilogy, which I believe the Dark Empire comic book adapted.
Yesterday's announcement also revealed that George Lucas had film treatments for episodes 7, 8 and 9.
However, today we learn that Star Wars Episode 7 will be an all-new story and an original one, as a source from Lucasfilm tells EOnline as much.
"It's an original story," a LucasFilm source revealed.
This fits in with what George Lucas has stated previously in interviews, that the Star Wars story stopped with Return of the Jedi.
What that exactly means for the series of novels and comics that take place after Return is anybody's guess, but we know that Star Wars Episode 7 will be something that we haven't seen before - and from a galaxy far, far away.
EOnline also states no director has been attached as of yet.
