Clayface Final Trailer Hides The Monster: ‘They Know Exactly What They’re Doing’

UPDATE 2: The final form is still under wraps, and Skydance’s DC Studios page now calls Clayface an anti-hero.

UPDATE: Boxoffice Pro projects Clayface to open between $23M and $33M, below Supergirl.

The final trailer for Clayface is here, four weeks before the movie opens only in theaters October 23.

“In four weeks, look fear in the face,” goes DC Studios’ tagline on the drop.

It’s also the loudest thing Warner Bros. has done for the movie yet.

Our last report noted the campaign amounted to a few posters while fans kept waiting. The studio just put something real in front of them.

The Final Form Stays Hidden

A minute and 41 seconds of new footage, and Clayface’s final form is still nowhere to be seen.

Fans noticed immediately, and they love it.

“The fact they’re STILL hiding his final form… yeah they know exactly what they’re doing,” wrote one fan, in a comment that quickly racked up hundreds of likes.

“It would be so dumb to show it now.. so close to it!” replied another.

“Because if u see it u won’t go to cinema,” joked a third.

One sharp-eyed fan points out the trailer does sneak in a quick shot of Matt Hagen mid-transformation, and claims the full monster arrives in the final act.

Others point anyone who can’t wait to Creature Commandos, where they say Clayface already turned up.

And when a commenter guessed the movie is too low budget to show him at all, the reply came fast: “40 million dollar movie is low budget now i guess.”

What The Trailer Gives Away

The official synopsis fills in the story instead.

Matt Hagen rises from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man until a local crime boss leaves him horribly disfigured.

Abandoned by his own team, he turns to an experimental treatment that restores his face and breaks his grip on reality, sending him spiraling into all-consuming revenge.

Tom Rhys Harries leads a cast that officially includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.

James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, story by Flanagan, with Matt Reeves producing alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Oscar winner Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front) handles the score.

One more note from the fine print: international audiences get it first, starting October 21, two days ahead of North America.

Watch The Clayface Final Trailer

Every chart this fall has shown the same thing about the R-rated body horror take on the Batman villain: the people who know Clayface exists badly want to see it.

Now they finally have something to watch. Four weeks to turn it into tickets.
