The Chicago Comics And Entertainment Expo, aka C2E2, was held this weekend with Chris Hemsworth, star of the upcoming Thor movie, partaking in a QnA with IGN Editorial Director Chris Carle.
Hemsworth filled us in that while at first he didn’t know too much about the comic book character Thor, he quickly caught up by reading as many of the comics as he could. He went on to say he also tried not to pay too much attention to the internet’s reactions to his part or the film.
“You start to read things, and then you read things you shouldn’t see,” he laughed.
Hemsworth went on to describe the film as, “a blend of Viking mythology and science fiction” and noted they didn’t use CGI for the sets as it just wouldn’t look right.
“Audiences are not silly, we can’t show them computer imagery and tell them it’s real,” he said. “You can get a way with a little bit of stuff, but this adds a lot.”
When Hemsworth was asked about signing on to so many movies (9 in total!) and asked if it was at all intimidating, the actor responded with a firm, “Nope!”
Hemsworth is reunited with Joss Whedon in The Avengers, as the two worked together in Cabin in the Woods, and continued, “Especially with the Avengers, there’s these incredible characters that have been established on their own, and to bring them together is very exciting.”
He said how fantastic Whedon is, with the director calling Keneth Branagh, director on Thor, and putting in a good word during casting.
“He’s a fanboy back to front…and they’re the best people to work with. He’s the most intelligent and open resource you can imagine,” Hemsworth said.
The audience got their own chance to participate with a range of questions.
They joked about reprising his role in “Adventures in Babysitting” – and even playing He-Man!
Hemsworth also mentioned he wouldn’t play Aquaman – who we all know is a DC Comics Character, Marvel’s direct competition.
Apparently, a fan also tried sneaking a question in with mention of the Skrulls, but Hemsworth didn’t bite.
