Booster Gold isn’t dead after all?
Hours after David Jenkins announced that his version of the series “won’t be moving forward,” TheWrap reports that DC Studios still plans to make the show, just with a new creative team.
Per the outlet’s “exclusive,” the series remains alive at DC and HBO Max, and no actor was ever cast in the role either way.
Six Weeks From Delivery To Done
Jenkins was hired in July 2025 to write the pilot and run the show if it went to series.
On June 15, he announced he had turned in the finished script, calling it “one of my favorite pilot scripts.”
Six weeks later, he is off the project.
That tracks with how the DC TV side actually works. HBO Max boss Casey Bloys greenlights these shows script by script, on his read of the page.
Whatever Jenkins delivered, it did not clear that bar in its current form. A revamp with a new team means a new script, and a new script means Booster Gold goes back to the start of the line.
So What About Nanjiani?
TheWrap notes no actor was ever cast either way, which means the role is wide open under whatever team comes next.
For more than two years, Kumail Nanjiani was rumored as the frontrunner to play Michael Jon Carter.
That was never confirmed, Gunn dodged it as recently as December, and a fresh creative team could go in any direction.
But an open role attached to a suddenly revived series is exactly the kind of vacuum this rumor has filled before.
A Revamp Is Not A Greenlight
Worth keeping the tiers straight. What is confirmed: Jenkins is out, by his own statement. What TheWrap reports: the series continues with a new creative team and no cast.
What has not changed: Booster Gold still has no greenlight, no script, no star, and no date.
Gunn originally pitched the show as “Imposter Syndrome as a superhero.”
Three and a half years after that announcement, the imposter is still waiting for someone to build him a suit.
