Gunn’s Last Hurrah Confirmed? Blue Beetle Returns In Man of Tomorrow

Xolo Maridueña is returning as Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow.

Scooper Daniel Richtman had it first, and TheWrap has since confirmed, reporting the film will serve as the character’s reintroduction into the DCU.

Another day, another name on the pile, exactly as I have been telling you. Recall that insiders said to expect big cameos and fan service because this “could be it” for Gunn and his DCU.

The Cameo Pile

Just in the past week: Gunn teased Guy Gardner with a middle-finger battery from the set. Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart was already on the call sheet, alongside Supergirl, Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, the Engineer, Maxima, Rick Flag Sr., and Matthew Lillard’s mystery role.

Now add Blue Beetle. And don’t forget those Batman rumors, which, as I reported, I’m hearing Gunn himself is fueling to justify a cameo.

Here’s the part worth remembering: back in 2023, Gunn declared Blue Beetle “the first DCU character.” Three years later, the first DCU character finally gets his reintroduction as one more face in a stuffed Superman sequel, while the promised animated series still hasn’t aired.

The Last Hurrah

It all fits what insiders have described: a script “Frankensteined” from previous ideas, shot Marvel-style with a loose outline that lets Gunn keep bolting on DC characters as a reaction to the Supergirl backlash.

And recall the endgame my sources laid out: once Paramount takes over, expect Gunn and Safran to “step down to focus on Man of Tomorrow,” the face-saving exit. This movie is the last hurrah, and it’s being stuffed with everything within reach.

Fitting company, too: Blue Beetle grossed $130.8 million worldwide, almost exactly where Supergirl is limping to a finish.

Update: More To Come

Scooper Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK) has more, and it all fits right in. He followed up by teasing “a much bigger scoop about a returning character” for the film.

Richtman then posted that White Rabbit, the obscure Batman villain introduced in the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere, will also return.

The production is also reportedly hiding more unannounced characters behind codenames. Big cameos and fan service for the last hurrah, exactly as insiders said. The pile keeps growing by the hour.

Everything we know about Man of Tomorrow is here. Stay tuned. Comic-Con is next week.
