Chris Anne Affleck, the mother of Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck, has died at the age of 83, her family announced this week through an obituary published in The Boston Globe.
Chris Anne Affleck died two days after her grandson’s graduation
She died peacefully in her sleep on June 2, two days after attending her grandson’s high school graduation.
She had received a terminal diagnosis in December and was given six months to live, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting she had been battling pancreatic cancer.
Per the obituary, her greatest wish after the diagnosis was “to live to see her grandson graduate high school,” which she did on May 31.
A Harvard graduate who taught public school for 35 years
Born in New York City in 1942, she was among the first Radcliffe women to receive a Harvard diploma and went on to spend 35 years as a public school teacher in Massachusetts before retiring in 2008.
She was also a lifelong civil rights advocate who taught literacy classes in Mississippi during Freedom Summer and marched against the Vietnam War.

Ben Affleck brought his mother to the 1998 Academy Awards alongside Matt Damon and his mom when the pair won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting.
Recalling the moment years later, the actor said there was never any question about who would join them: “Of course our moms were gonna go.”
She is survived by her five grandchildren: Ben’s children with Jennifer Garner, Violet, Fin, and Sam, and Casey’s children with Summer Phoenix, Atticus and Indiana.
Ben Affleck is well known to comic book fans for starring as Daredevil in the 2003 film and as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and The Flash.
Casey Affleck won the Best Actor Oscar in 2017 for Manchester by the Sea.
