Marvel didn’t wait for Hall H. The official Avengers: Doomsday trailer dropped online Monday morning, timed to the minute with Infinity Vision tickets going on sale, five days before the studio’s Comic-Con panel.
What’s In The Trailer
The 2 minute, 26 second trailer opens on a gut punch: the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters sign lying in the dirt, while a somber voiceover warns that something is coming that the heroes may not be able to stop, building to what he calls “an unthinkable decision.”
The voice belongs to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who rises out of the shadows in the hood and mask for his first full reveal. Notably, Doom isn’t making threats. He’s issuing a warning, which is the first on-screen taste of the sympathetic angle his character has been rumored to carry.
From there: Charles Xavier watches fire rain from the sky through the mansion window as the Incursions arrive. Thor plays reluctant recruiter, trying to pull the factions together while making it clear he fears Doom more than he ever feared Thanos. The trailer backs him up by showing Doom neutralizing the God of Thunder without breaking stride.
There are glimpses of Shang-Chi and Gambit squaring off, Sam Wilson still carrying the shield, Reed Richards and Yelena in the thick of a battle, and even HERBIE.
And then the money shot: Steve Rogers, back on screen, catching Mjolnir. Still worthy. Sam has the shield, but the hammer just changed the equation.
The Leaked Description Called The Big Beats
Now for the scorecard. The trailer description that leaked out of a Russian Telegram channel last weekend claimed a Steve-proves-himself hammer moment, Thor being effortlessly overpowered by Doom, the X-Men at the center of the action, and a Doom who talks like a man asking for understanding rather than surrender.
All of it is in here. The shot order is shuffled from that rundown, and some beats are being held back, but the leak itself flagged that it described a rough cut. The big swings landed exactly where it said they would.
Add it to the pile. The updated synopsis matched the leaked outline’s three-universe structure, and the outline John Campea vouched for keeps converting rumors into confirmations. At this point the February leak has a better batting average than most trades.
The Poster Is The Leak’s Painting, Brought To Life
Marvel dropped the first official poster alongside the trailer, and it stages the exact beat the leaked description promised: Doom standing before a towering shrine to his wife and son.
The one-sheet puts Doom on the steps of his Latverian castle, hood up and mask in hand, gazing up at a tapestry that turns his family into religious iconography: mother and child embraced by angels, floating above a globe wrapped in clouds. It reads like a Renaissance altarpiece, and that’s the point. Doom didn’t hang a portrait. He built a religion around what he lost.
The tagline says the rest: “12.18.26 IS DOOMSDAY.” The image is the wife-and-son painting straight out of the leaked trailer description, and the clearest visual confirmation yet of the motivation leak: Doom’s war on the Multiverse starts with grief. And a family enthroned above a world of clouds is a hard image to separate from where the leak says all of this ends.
The Numbers Are Instant
The response was immediate: 2.8 million views and nearly 987,000 likes on YouTube inside the first two hours. That is a like ratio north of 30 percent, the kind of number trailer analytics almost never produce, and the polar opposite of the dislike avalanche that buried The Odyssey trailer earlier this year.
It only accelerated from there. Per tracker Global Box Office, the trailer crossed 500 million views across platforms in 24 hours, Disney’s biggest launch ever and the second biggest in history, behind only Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel has yet to post official numbers.
The ticket sales matched the hype. Per Variety, Doomsday pulled $16.5 million in advance sales on day one, twice what Deadpool & Wolverine did, and on premium-only inventory in just 1,000 theaters.
It’s also a decent day for a movie that, per this month’s reports, the Russos were still fighting to find in the editing room. Whatever is happening in that edit, the footage Marvel chose to show cuts together like a movie that knows what it is.
With the trailer out early, Saturday’s Hall H panel is now free to go bigger: extended footage, the cast on stage, and whatever reveals Marvel is still sitting on. Tickets are on sale now at Fandango for Infinity Vision screenings only, with standard formats still to come.
