UPDATE: Ahead of the expected July 25 Hall H debut, tickets go on sale with the runtime revealed, and a full beat-by-beat description of the trailer leaked online, opening on Doom on his Latverian throne.
After months of near-silence, the Avengers: Doomsday marketing machine just switched on, and everything is pointing toward Hall H.
Marvel Studios has locked Hall H for Saturday, July 25, where the first public Avengers: Doomsday trailer is expected to debut.
The official listing does not name any titles, but nobody is confused about what Marvel’s Saturday panel is for.
Until now, all anyone has officially seen is the December teaser wave and the exhibitor-only footage shown at CinemaCon.
The massive BilibiliWorld takeover that opened in Shanghai this weekend? That was wave one.
Marvel Says Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Will Return
Marvel’s Shanghai display includes a new tease for which heroes will return in Avengers: Doomsday:
“Earth’s Mightiest Heroes — Steve Rogers, Shuri, Thor, Loki, Ant-Man, Captain America, Falcon, Shang-Chi, Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and Red Guardian — along with the Avengers, will return in Avengers: Doomsday.”
No name on that list comes as a surprise at this point. The tell is in who Marvel chose to include, and who it left out.
Thunderbolts* ended with six New Avengers, yet the description names exactly half of them. The loudest omission is Lewis Pullman’s Sentry. Namor, M’Baku, and Cassie Lang, all officially cast, also go unmentioned.
Marvel is saving reveals. The obvious stage for them opens in two weeks.
Marvel Unloads The First Wave In Shanghai
The teases came fast once construction started on the BilibiliWorld booth.
Leaked photos delivered the first look at Doctor Doom’s throne and the X-Mansion before the doors even opened.
Five location sets were built across the floor in total, with Avengers Headquarters, the Baxter Building, and Wakanda rounding out the display.
On stage, Kevin Feige teased Yelena appearing “a little bit sooner” — three weeks before Spider-Man: Brand New Day — and put the X-Men movie on the calendar after Secret Wars.
Feige also shared Robert Downey Jr.’s reaction to being offered Doom: “I played the best hero… I can play the best villain.”
Then new art put Cyclops front and center beneath Doom’s looming mask, while Downey, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth beamed in through a video message from the set.
Cameras are still rolling with the movie five months from release.
Marvel Has To Bury The Doomsday Plot Leak
Marvel has one major problem heading into Hall H: the full plot outline is already out there, and John Campea says it’s the real thing.
You cannot market mystery you no longer have. So Marvel is marketing scale instead.
Five sets spread across a convention floor. Feige working the stage in Shanghai. A release-day countdown clock hanging above Doctor Doom’s throne.
Expect the same play in Hall H: spectacle, roster reveals, and a trailer built to bury the leaked document beneath actual footage.
The movie opens December 18 without IMAX behind it — Dune: Part Three already grabbed those screens for the same date, putting even more pressure on Marvel’s campaign to do the heavy lifting everywhere else.
