Today at the Marvel Television Panel it was announced that, indeed, Agent Phil Coulson lives!
Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, appeared to meet his demise during The Avengers movie in a battle with Loki; however, his remains were never seen thereafter.
This led to rampant speculation that Coulson was either a Life Model Decoy or will go on to become the Vision.
Now we learn at the New York Comic-Con that Agent Phil Coulson and Clark Gregg will appear in the upcoming ABC S.H.I.E.L.D. television series from Joss Whedon.
Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, introduced Clark Gregg, where the actor said he loved his time with Marvel playing the role.
Then The Avengers director Joss Whedon showed as did Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige, who sported a “Coulson Lives!” t-shirt.
“We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that,” Whedon said, reports CBR. “From before we made ‘The Avengers,’ we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death. … The fact of the matter is, as much as we love him, now that I’m really running Marvel, I like to keep a type of artistic integrity, which means we don’t stretch the bounds of reality.”
“There was never going to be a ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ show without Agent Phil Coulson!” said Feige.
“He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was.” said Whedon.
