The Avengers (2012): Tom Hiddleston Talks “Dark alleyways in space” and More

loki the avengersOne thing is for sure and that is The Avengers movie will be cosmic.

Speaking with Australian’s Film Ink Magazine, Tom Hiddleston once again mentions the cosmic aspects to his character Loki.

“He and Thor literally have superhuman powers,” the British actor says. “Within the Marvel Universe, Loki has the keys to the universe, and he’s been down all those dark alleyways in space. He’s met all the monsters and made friends with them.”

As we saw at the conclusion of Thor, Loki was seemingly lost while battling against his brother on the Rainbow bridge – where exactly is anybody’s guess. However, a clue was given in that Loki told Heimdall, “There are passages between worlds that even your all-seeing eyes could not observe.”

And this is how it is thought Loki makes his way to Earth (for more on that, head on over here).

The current train of thought regarding the “monsters” Loki has met, is that it’s the alien race of shape-shifters known as the Skrulls.

Hiddleston continues, possibly giving a clue as to where he has been and the origin of new found powers.

Alluding to the backstory, saying that between the gap from Thor‘s end and The Avengers‘s beginning, Loki has taken a journey to the Marvel version of The Seventh Circle Of Hell and brought back secrets. “He’s an all-power-being,” he says smiling. “Loki’s agenda, like all delusional, would-be autocratic fascists, is power, which he believes will give him self-esteem. I haven’t let go of the fact that he still motivated by this terrible jealousy and spiritual desolation.”

The “Marvel version of The Seventh Circle Of Hell” I take is just a way of saying violence, as that is what it is called in Dante’s Inferno (as I haven’t been able to find any Marvel Comics reference). Interestingly enough, the Seventh Circle also houses the blasphemers (ala Loki against Odin). However, I’m not exactly quite sure if Hiddleston said this himself as I don’t have the original article in front of me.

Still, basically among other things, it’s stating that Loki’s traveled to the dark side and coming back to kick some Avengers tale!
