Now this is rather interesting.
Just a few hours ago some news hit that Annihilus might making his way to Midgard (Earth) in The Avengers, following Loki as the god of mischief makes his way through the Negative Zone with an army.
Well, being the Marvel Cosmic fan that I am, I speculated — maybe we’ll see the Human Rocket Nova appear, as Nova has been getting a lot of attention as of late from various forms of entertainment media, and of course has had previous business with Annihilus.
Now, up at the official Marvel Avengers movie site, character bios have been posted, along with the The Avengers movie banners released a couple days ago.
Well, Loki’s bio reveals that it’s going to take more than the Avengers to take him down (bold my own).
After his bid to overthrow the throne of Asgard was thwarted by his brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the evil Loki (Tom Hiddleston) retreated to lands unknown to plot his revenge. Not just against his brother, but against Earth, whose inhabitants Thor now protects. Loki, now returns with a nefarious plot to conquer Earth and will stop at nothing to see his vision realized. When his mission of power threatens the entire planet, it may take more than The Avengers to stop him.
So who is it gonna be?
Marvel Studios could easily be using The Avengers to spearhead their next series of new movies. Word has already hit about a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, as well as Dr. Strange. And a big appearance wouldn’t be necessary either (let’s be honest there seems to be enough characters already), but just a cameo to get people talking. Rocket Raccoon could show up with a big arse gun and the Guardians in tow blasting the crud out of Loki’s army. Or Nova could simply fly in at the end asking the Avengers if they need some assistance. Heck, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Wendell Vaughn is rumored to be a part, and we’ve seen mention of Project Pegasus during Iron Man (and might show up in The Avengers as a research facility), so the Protector of the Universe could be making his debut, as well.
Regardless, sounds like big things are in store for this movie.
The Avengers assembles May 4th, 2012 and is directed by Joss Whedon, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
