The Avengers 2: Marvel Studios Releases Statement On Joss Whedon’s Involvment


[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2507:]]Yesterday saw the news surface that Joss Whedon will be returning to write and direct “The Avengers 2” as well as be involved in a new Marvel TV series.

Now, we have an official statement from Marvel Studios to go along with it (via

Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC.  He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.

It’s speculated that the new live action Marvel TV series referenced might be Avengers-based, but using characters not seen in the movie, or possibly some kind of involvement in Guillermo Del Toro’s Hulk series.

At the box office, The Avengers has grossed a whopping $1.6 billion worldwide with $616 million domestically.

The Avengers movie assembles May 4th, 2012 and is directed by Joss Whedon, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
