The Assassin’s Creed movie now has an official release date of May 22, 2015, Memorial Day weekend, and stars Michael Fassbender.

It’s based on the popular video game of the same name from Ubisoft, with Fassbender on as producer and Fox Studios getting the distribution rights.

I do believe Ubisoft is retaining creative control over the movie as well.

No director has been announced as of yet, but obviously with a release date for Assassins’ Creed in place an announcement should be forthcoming.

The video game sees the modern day equivalent of the Knights Templar forcing Desmond Miles to relive his memories in order to discover ancient artifacts.

The kicker is that Miles is a descendant of Assassins, and trained as one himself, but fled the lifestyle to live a more “normal” life.

The popular video games have taken place in various different timelines including The Crusades, The Renaissance and the American Revolution.

The most recent game, Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag, introduced a British man caught between the war amongst the Templars and the Assassins, set in the 18th Century.

It’s unknown which plot the movie will be following.

The May 22nd release date for the Assassin’s Creed movie has it coming three weeks after The Avengers 2.

It could also go up against J.J. Abrams Star Wars, which has a 2015 release.
