UPDATE 2: The Mystique chatter has started: Hunter Schafer, Melissa Barrera, and Elle Fanning are rumored for the role.
UPDATE: Beast and Iceman are the next roles being cast, and Daniel Richtman says three more parts are still open, one of them built for the sequel.
Asa Germann is in final talks to play Angel in Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Gen V star lands the role of Warren Worthington III, the winged mutant from the comics’ original lineup.
He becomes the eighth cast member and the first addition since Marvel unveiled the cast at D23 last month, where Kevin Feige said more casting was still to come.
He Auditioned For Cyclops First
Germann originally read for Cyclops, per THR.
Kit Connor won that part, but Germann’s audition landed with the studio, which turned around and offered him Angel.
That lines up with the earlier chatter. Our X-Men casting rumor tracker listed Germann as a Cyclops contender back in June, alongside Connor, Harris Dickinson, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Marvel declined to comment.

Angel Goes Back To X-Men #1
Warren Worthington III was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and debuted in 1963’s X-Men #1 as one of the original five X-Men.
His feathered wings give him the power of flight. During one stretch of the comics, the villain Apocalypse replaced those wings with metal blade-firing ones, turning him into Archangel.
Germann is the third actor to play the character on the big screen. Ben Foster played Angel in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and Ben Hardy took the role in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
From Gen V To The MCU
Germann is best known as Sam Riordan on Gen V, Prime Video’s spinoff of The Boys set at a university for young Supes.
He also appeared in this year’s Scream 7 as Lucas Bowden, one of Ghostface’s victims.
Angel makes it two superhero universes for the actor — though this time he’s playing an actual hero.
Only Beast And Iceman Are Left From The Original Five
With Angel filled, three of the comics’ original five X-Men are now cast: Kit Connor’s Cyclops, Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, and Germann’s Angel.
The rest of the announced lineup includes Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as the villain Mister Sinister.
That leaves Beast and Iceman as the open slots from the original five.
Rumors have floated Charles Melton and Peter Claffey for Beast, while fans have been campaigning for Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp to play Iceman after a scooper claimed he’s being eyed for a major MCU role. None of that is confirmed.
The buzz around the movie keeps building, too, as a source who read the script compared it to Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman.
Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts*, helms the film, which opens May 5, 2028.
Before the new team arrives, the Fox-era mutants get their send-off in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18. For the release date, full cast, and everything else on the reboot, see our Marvel’s X-Men (2028) guide.
