Armie Hammer finally has a movie the whole world is talking about, and according to a new report, he can’t stand it.
Puck News‘ Kim Masters reports that Hammer broke down the first time he watched Citizen Vigilante, the low-budget shock thriller from German director Uwe Boll that has become one of the most controversial releases of the year.
“The first time he saw it, he was in tears,” a source in Hammer’s camp told Puck, and those weren’t tears of joy. “He called me and said, ‘F—. This is hateful, disgusting.'”
That’s quite the reaction attributed to the guy whose face is on the poster.

Citizen Vigilante — described by Masters as “Death Wish on steroids” — stars Hammer as an American businessman on a manhunt largely targeting immigrants.
Per Puck’s source, Hammer knew the project “leaned toward the right” but claims he didn’t grasp what the finished film would be, blaming Boll’s famously frantic production style.
“It’s not like he sent him a hundred-page script,” the source said. “When he saw the final product, he was, ‘That was not the movie I thought we made,’ and he freaked the f— out.”
Hammer himself told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of release that Boll sent him only a 50-page script, and summed up his mindset at the time: “I would have done a f—ing cat food commercial.”
Worth noting: this is all single-sourced through Hammer’s own camp, and his attorney didn’t respond to Puck’s requests for comment. Take it for what it’s worth.

The film exploded after Germany blocked it from theaters, ruling it anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim.
Elon Musk responded by posting the entire movie on X for two days, free for anyone to watch, with copies spreading across other big accounts.
Citizen Vigilante shot to #1 on both Apple and Amazon following a limited theatrical run, turning a Uwe Boll cheapie into an international story and a rallying cry online.
It’s the most attention Hammer has gotten for an onscreen performance in years.
Puck’s source explained the numbers as proof of life: “It’s breaking through because it’s very extreme, but it’s also a testament to his star power.”
However, Masters wasn’t buying that one, as she notes, Elon’s star power probably had a little something to do with it.

The report paints a bleak picture of Hammer’s post-cancellation reality.
Since the 2021 allegations that torched his career — claims ranging from disturbing messages to sexual assault; Hammer has acknowledged being emotionally abusive but denied the rest — no agency has represented him since WME cut him loose.
Per Masters, Hammer told her over lunch in early 2024 that he never inherited a family fortune and badly needed money. He’d tried selling timeshares in the Caymans, but the government wouldn’t license him, so he was working as a sober companion for addicts and alcoholics.
Instead of the carefully managed comeback his advisers wanted, he did the Piers Morgan interview, launched a podcast, and took a reported $250,000 payday to headline a Uwe Boll movie.
He’s since shot a handful of small films, including the sub-$1 million thriller Night Driver and Rockets Red Glare, a JPL origin story with Josh Lucas directed by Luo Yan.
But Puck’s source admits an indie breakout is “a needle in a haystack.” The real path back is an established director taking a chance on him, the way Luca Guadagnino once did with Call Me by Your Name.
Citizen Vigilante 2 Is Already in Preproduction
Here’s the kicker: a Citizen Vigilante sequel is not just in preproduction — Boll has already dated it.
“Citizen Vigilante 2. Coming 2027,” the director posted on X, alongside an AI-generated poster carrying the tagline “He Comes to America.” Boll confirmed the new setting again during his disastrous Reddit AMA this past week: “CV2 will be different ….and playing in the USA.”
And whose name is billed across the top of that poster? Armie Hammer’s. So is the man reportedly reduced to tears by the first one actually out?
Not exactly. Asked whether Hammer would reprise the role, his own camp told Puck: “It would have to be life-changing money. Everyone has a breaking point.”
For a guy supposedly sickened by the movie, that door sounds wide open. The tears arrived after the check cleared and the film hit #1 — and with Boll already selling the sequel with Hammer’s name on the one-sheet, don’t be surprised if the vigilante rides again.
