Andrew Garfield may finally get some credit for telling the truth.
With the alleged Avengers: Doomsday plot leak going viral — featuring Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man — the question follows automatically: is Garfield in it too? The actor is on record shutting it down, but nobody has believed a Garfield denial since 2021.
Asked directly in a GQ interview whether he and Maguire would appear in the movie, Garfield answered: “No, unequivocally f***ing no.”
The problem, of course, is that Garfield spent all of 2021 denying he was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, right up until he swung into the movie alongside Maguire and Tom Holland on the way to $1.9 billion worldwide.
As Garfield himself has admitted, he’ll be answering Spider-Man return questions for the rest of his life, and no one will ever trust his answer.

The Leak Backs Garfield Up
Warning: light spoilers for the alleged Avengers: Doomsday leak follow.
Here’s the twist: this time, the evidence is on Garfield’s side.
The alleged full plot description — which John Campea says is “now out there” and the real thing, reportedly features Maguire’s Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi trilogy. Garfield’s web-slinger, however, is nowhere to be found in the material that has surfaced.
That also lines up with insider reporting from earlier this year, which claimed Maguire would be the only alternate Spider-Man in the film — “for now” — with Garfield and Holland notably absent from the movie.
So for once, it appears Garfield’s “unequivocally no” was the honest answer. The multiverse jokes write themselves, but the man deserves this one.
Secret Wars Is Another Story
Garfield being absent from Doomsday doesn’t close the door on his return, the rumors have long pointed to Avengers: Secret Wars instead, where Spider-Man plays a key role in the 2015 comic storyline the movie draws from.
And on that one, Garfield is far less unequivocal. Asked by MTV’s Josh Horowitz about a Secret Wars appearance, the actor teased: “See, what it is, is this a tell? Or what is it? You’ll find out.”
Given his track record, fans will believe exactly what they want to believe.
As always, Marvel Studios has not commented on the leak, so treat the details as rumor. The Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, hits theaters December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.
