The Marc Webb directed The Amazing Spider-Man will be the first movie to use “3ality Digital’s TS-5 wireless and handheld beamsplitter mirror rig,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Now, I have no idea what that means, but the director of photography on The Amazing Spider-Man, John Schwartzman, says it’s a good thing.

“You don’t get the unwanted shadowing effects during shots that sometimes appear using other 3D rigs, and the lens changes only take a few minutes,” said Schwartzman. “We wanted a rig that would not only deliver the best quality and performance but also one that wouldn’t delay the production, so we have all the benefits of a 3D picture and we’re shooting to a 2D schedule.”

Furthermore, the CEO of 3ality, Steve Schklair, added that the rigs speed production as it gives you the ability to shoot a one hour episode in the required nine days – and at minimal cost.

They might as well be talking in Japanese, but Schklair goes on to say, “Marc Webb is set to take the Spider-Man movies in a new direction and shooting the picture in 3D will certainly add an exciting element.”

While the TS-5 does sound similar to something out of the Terminator, will this give audiences something along the lines of the T-1000 (tech-wise) – or will we not even notice?

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters in 3-D and is directed by Marc Webb starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard, Irrfan Khan as Nels Van Adder, Martin Sheen as Ben Parker, Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy, Sally Field as May Parker and C. Thomas Howell as Ray Cooper.
