Doc Ock isn’t done, apparently.
Scooper MyTimeToShineHello reports Alfred Molina is set to return as Doctor Octopus in Avengers: Doomsday, and this time, his dance partner is Magneto.
The Rumor: Doc Ock vs. Magneto
The account first attached Molina to Doomsday weeks ago. Friday’s post adds the new detail: his fight is with Ian McKellen’s Master of Magnetism.
Grade it accordingly as Marvel hasn’t confirmed a frame of it, and Molina’s name appears nowhere in the official cast.
But this one doesn’t arrive out of nowhere.
Insider Daniel Richtman has separately reported that Magneto battles Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man villains in the script. Two scoopers, same collision course.
And McKellen is one of the few things about this movie that is actually confirmed, announced in Marvel’s marathon casting reveal alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X.
The Plot Leak Already Set The Stage
Here’s why the rumor tracks: the full Doomsday plot outline that John Campea vouched for as the real thing is built on Incursions slamming universes together, including an opening built around Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.
If Raimi’s universe is on the board, Raimi’s villains are on the board.
It’s the same leak that has Andrew Garfield’s denials looking honest, for what it’s worth. The Raimi corner of the multiverse keeps growing while the Webb corner stays dark.
Worth remembering: the Doc Ock in No Way Home was pulled out of his timeline moments before his Spider-Man 2 death, cured, and sent home. Between that and the Incursion premise, the multiverse math for bringing him back writes itself.
Molina is also the last guy in Hollywood who keeps a secret. He confirmed his own No Way Home return in an interview before the studio ever announced it — so if this is real, expect Molina himself to spill it eventually.
Raimi Solved This Fight In 2004
On paper, Magneto versus a man fused to four giant metal tentacles lasts about four seconds.
Except Sam Raimi already wrote the loophole 22 years ago. In Spider-Man 2‘s demonstration scene, Octavius tells the room his arms are “impervious to heat and magnetism.”
That throwaway line is the entire reason this fight can exist. If Doomsday‘s writers remembered it, Doc Ock vs. Magneto goes from a punchline to one of the best comic-logic matchups in the movie.
If they didn’t, well, it’s a short scene.
Two Weeks From Hall H
The timing here is no coincidence. Marvel has Hall H locked for Saturday, July 25, with the first Doomsday trailer expected, and the rumor mill always redlines before a Marvel showcase.
MTTSH’s track record is hit-and-miss, and cameo-stacking rumors are the cheapest currency in this news cycle. But between the validated plot leak, Richtman landing on the same page, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom pulling every legacy name Marvel can sign into his orbit, a Molina return is one of the more believable swings out there.
