The first footage is here. Lucasfilm released the Ahsoka Season 2 teaser trailer at D23 on Saturday, and Anakin Skywalker is front and center.
The teaser debuted during the Disney Studio Showcase panel in Anaheim, with Dave Filoni joined on stage by Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, and Eman Esfandi. The stage itself was dressed in mist and carvings of the Mortis gods.
Anakin asks the big question
The teaser opens with Anakin’s voice: “Tell me, Ahsoka… What troubles you?”
Christensen’s Anakin tells his former Padawan, “I’m always walking by your side,” and closes the teaser with the line that doubles as the season’s tagline: “Are you a Jedi… or not?”
The footage confirms what the D23 costume display already gave away. As we covered, snow costumes for Anakin and Padawan Ahsoka revealed a live-action Clone Wars flashback, and the trailer shows Christensen training Ariana Greenblatt’s young Ahsoka while also appearing to Rosario Dawson’s adult version.
“A long time ago, I walked away from the Jedi,” Ahsoka says, before Anakin pushes back: “This is your trial, Ahsoka. It might be time to decide.”
On stage, Christensen said Anakin continues to advise and challenge Ahsoka, pushing her to answer the most important question of her life.
Update, August 21: There is a business reason Anakin is front and center. Luminate’s mid-year data shows nobody is rewatching Ahsoka Season 1, which missed the Top 10 Disney+ original series for the first half of 2026.
Thrawn declares war
“Citizens of the glorious Empire, I have returned,” Thrawn announces.
Then comes the declaration: “I took an oath to protect the Empire. I therefore declare war… on the Rebel Alliance.”
Note the wording. As far as Thrawn is concerned, the New Republic is still just a rebellion.
Dawson called the season massive on stage, with bigger battles and Thrawn’s threat looming over the entire galaxy. Filoni has framed Season 2 as all-out war between Thrawn and the New Republic, and Esfandi confirmed Ezra Bridger is back with his Rebels family and fighting for the New Republic.
The teaser also leans into the Mortis mystery, with talk of visions of war and Baylan’s search for a power that could end wars.
January 20 premiere kicks off the 50th anniversary
Ahsoka Season 2 premieres January 20, 2027 on Disney+. The date was first revealed Friday via a new poster at D23.
Here is the kicker: per StarWars.com, the premiere lands one month ahead of a theatrical re-release of the original Star Wars celebrating the film’s 50th anniversary.
That backs up our reporting. As we exclusively reported from San Diego Comic-Con, a Hasbro rep told us Lucasfilm is going big for the 50th with the Original Trilogy and Clone Wars front and center. A Clone Wars flashback season followed by the original film back in theaters is exactly that plan in motion.
Dave Filoni wrote the season and directs the premiere and finale, with Bryce Dallas Howard, Anders Engström, and Jennifer Getzinger directing two episodes each. Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Eman Esfandi, Hayden Christensen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, David Tennant, and Ivanna Sakhno return, with Rory McCann taking over as Baylan Skoll.
D23 also saw Disney and Lucasfilm reveal the first Star Wars: Starfighter trailer and who Ryan Gosling is playing.
