UPDATE 8/21/26: The Anakin-first strategy now has a reason behind it. Luminate’s mid-year data shows Ahsoka Season 1 did not make the Top 10 Disney+ original series for the first half of 2026, out-streamed by The Book of Boba Fett and The Bad Batch.

The Clone Wars is going live action. Costumes on display at D23 for Ahsoka Season 2 include winter outfits for Anakin Skywalker and Padawan Ahsoka Tano, pointing directly at a flashback to Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The display hit the show floor as D23 kicks off this weekend in Anaheim, with photos and video spreading across social media Thursday night.

Anakin’s costume is instantly recognizable as his cold weather gear from “Trespass,” the Season 1 episode of The Clone Wars set on the ice world Orto Plutonia.
The Padawan Ahsoka costume is a fur-lined winter coat that recalls her snow look from the Season 4 episode “A Friend in Need.”
Anakin appeared in the Ahsoka Season 1 finale as a Force ghost, and Force ghosts don’t need snow jackets.
A full winter costume for Hayden Christensen’s Anakin means a flesh and blood flashback to the Clone Wars era.
The costumes are designed by Sammy Sheldon Differ, with concept art surrounding the mannequins on the show floor.
Hayden Christensen back as Clone Wars Anakin
Christensen already went back to the Clone Wars in Season 1. Episode 5 flashed back to Ahsoka’s days as Anakin’s Padawan, with Ariana Greenblatt playing the young Ahsoka opposite Christensen in the World Between Worlds.
The Padawan snow costume points to more of the same in Season 2, this time on an ice world.
Lucasfilm confirmed Christensen’s return at Star Wars Celebration Japan, where the studio also revealed Rory McCann as the new Baylan Skoll.
Christensen has made it clear this is the era he wants to play in. As we previously covered, the actor said he would love to revisit the Clone Wars timeline, adding, “if it meant I got to swing a lightsaber with Ewan [McGregor] again, that would be amazing.”
Naturally, the snow costumes already have fans speculating Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi could turn up in the flashback as well. Nothing is confirmed on that front.
Fits with Lucasfilm’s big Clone Wars plans
A live-action return to the Clone Wars also lines up with what we heard at San Diego Comic-Con.
As we exclusively reported, a Hasbro rep on the Star Wars line told me Lucasfilm is going big for the franchise’s 50th anniversary next year, specifically name-dropping Clone Wars alongside the Original Trilogy.
Ahsoka Season 2 arriving on January 20, 2027 puts a live-action Clone Wars flashback right at the start of the anniversary year. The timing is no accident.
What else is in the Ahsoka Season 2 display
The D23 display also features updated costumes for Sabine Wren, Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Great Mother, and Ahsoka’s white outfit from the end of Season 1.
Star Wars announcements are expected at D23 on Saturday, so don’t be surprised if a Season 2 trailer finally drops this weekend.
Ahsoka Season 2 premieres January 20, 2027 on Disney+, with episodes directed by Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anders Engstrƶm, and Jennifer Getzinger. The hard date narrows down the early 2027 window announced at the Disney Upfronts.
Disney and Lucasfilm also revealed a first look at Star Wars: Starfighter.
