Advanced Review: The Hypernaturals #5

 

In a beautiful example of universe-building without retcons or reboots, CBNfan fave scribes Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning continue the adventures of The Hypernaturals as they must face first-time failure with the Centennial Iteration as the vets and newbies step up to save the Quantinuum.

As we discovered last issue, at least one veteran Hypernatural may be as untrustworthy as their imprisoned arch-enemy Sublime as he plays a cat-and-mouse game with Prismatica’s emotions, even from behind “bars.” Remember, Sublime is responsible for the current state of Prismatica’s husband and former team member, Stellerator – who, as we have seen, has been somehow converted into the memory-less body of a young boy.

Now Sublime is bringing Prismatica and Stellerator a new hope. But is it a false hope?

With Sublime’s motivations in question, vets Thinkwell and Bewilder – together again with a rejuvenated Clone 45 — must find a way to work with their greatest enemy if they’re going to face an even greater threat, one that might destroy the Quantinuum all together.

And, of course, it all starts with a trip for the newbies Shoal and Halfshell to visit … God! Yep, we first see the physicality of the Quantinuum AI. And artist Tom Derenick does a great job of bringing the artificial being to us in all its Kirby-esque greatness. Now this, my friends, is true hardcore SF done by the masters, DnA.

And also in Issue #5, as I deemed them in a recent interview for CBNwith DnA, you get your first glimpse at HN’s own version of the Masters of Evil! Who are they? Where are they from? And what do they have to do with Sublime?

This is an issue that has it all, and that beginning flashback of glory this issue will be gold to any Thinkwell fans (like myself)!

Another great issue in a continually entertaining and satisfying universe.
