Adria Arjona just got asked point blank about the Wonder Woman rumors at San Diego Comic-Con, and she didn’t deny a thing.
When Entertainment Weekly asked the Man of Tomorrow star about “those Wonder Woman rumors,” Arjona turned and walked right out of frame, deadpanning, “I’m going to go now.”
She came back seconds later with everyone cracking up, and her actual answer should sound very familiar to Cosmic Book News readers, because as we exclusively reported last month, insiders say Arjona is playing Wonder Woman in the movie, not Maxima.
Pressed on what she could actually share, Arjona skipped the denial entirely.
Instead, she talked about how much she loves James Gunn and dropped a career detail that ties her to the DC Studios bosses deeper than most fans realize.
“Funny that you ask me that. James gave me, and I don’t think a lot of people know this, James gave me my first movie ever. The first movie I ever stepped on was a James Gunn and Peter Safran movie. So they are family, and I am so happy to be a part of the DC universe. I’m with family.”
Her First Movie Was a Gunn and Safran Production
The movie she’s talking about is The Belko Experiment, the 2017 office battle royale that Gunn wrote and produced alongside Safran, with Greg McLean directing. Arjona starred as Leandra years before the pair took the keys to DC Studios.
So when she says family, there’s a decade of history behind the word. Her Hollywood career started inside the Gunn and Safran camp, and now she’s back home in their DC Universe.
She Never Said Maxima
Now look at that answer again, because what’s missing is the easy way out.
Arjona is confirmed for Man of Tomorrow, but when her casting first surfaced, the trades were never on the same page: Variety and Deadline reported the role as Maxima, The Hollywood Reporter called it a “mystery role,” and DC Studios declined to comment.
As Cosmic Book News exclusively reported, there’s a reason for the confusion: Gunn wrote the character into the script as a placeholder, where the role could have gone either way, Maxima or Wonder Woman.
Per our insiders, the current script has Arjona playing Wonder Woman.
These are the same insiders who told us first about Daredevil: Born Again getting retooled, which the trades confirmed months later.
A simple “I’m playing Maxima” would have killed the question on the spot.
She didn’t say it. She walked off, laughed, called Gunn and Safran family, and never went near the name the trades printed.
That’s not a debunk. That lines up with everything we’ve been told.
Gunn, for his part, branded the earliest Wonder Woman report “shoddy & incorrect” when the casting first leaked.
Per our insiders, the placeholder is exactly why nobody outside the room could pin the role down.
It Landed in a Loaded Month
The question hit Arjona in the middle of the loudest Wonder Woman stretch the DCU has had.
Zack Snyder fired back with his Gal Gadot tribute as Supergirl flopped, and the standalone Wonder Woman movie has hit the brakes, with Supergirl scribe Ana Nogueira calling the project “so early” after the trades once said it was fast-tracked.
Meanwhile, the woman at the center of it all is dodging the question on camera at Comic-Con.

Until DC makes it official, expect Arjona to keep getting the question at every camera, and expect her answers to keep sounding exactly like what our insiders already told us.
