Adria Arjona just dropped the most revealing Man of Tomorrow detail of Comic-Con weekend, and it lines up with what Cosmic Book News has been reporting.
Speaking with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con while promoting her new movie Onslaught, Arjona confirmed she hasn’t shot a single frame of the Superman sequel.
“I still haven’t started filming. I’ll tease that,” Arjona said.
She also revealed Gunn and Peter Safran “made me earn it” through the audition process, despite their history going back to The Belko Experiment, her first movie.
Three Months Into Production, Zero Days On Set
Her response says a lot.
Man of Tomorrow has been filming since late April. Arjona’s casting broke the same week cameras started rolling.
So three months into production, she hasn’t stepped on set. That sinks any claims floating around that she has already been shooting as Maxima. She hasn’t been shooting as anyone.
It Fits What Our Insiders Said
As Cosmic Book News exclusively reported, Gunn wrote her character into the script as a placeholder that could have gone either way, Maxima or Wonder Woman, and per our insiders, the current script has Arjona playing Wonder Woman.
A placeholder role that could still swing between characters is not a role that shoots in the first block of production. It’s a role that films late, once the script settles.
And this lands days after Arjona walked out on EW’s Wonder Woman question at the con, came back laughing, and never once said the name Maxima.
Or A Wonder Woman Cameo In Gunn’s Last Hurrah
There’s a second read here, and it fits our reporting just as well: a smaller role.
Back in April, when asked on Threads about more Man of Tomorrow casting announcements, Gunn replied that he already had “every major role.” Arjona’s deal was revealed after that, as cameras rolled.
Put it together: not a major role by Gunn’s own words, and a late-schedule shoot. That’s the profile of a contained appearance, the same playbook as Milly Alcock’s one-scene Supergirl debut in Superman.
And as we exclusively reported, insiders say Man of Tomorrow is being loaded with cameos and fan service because this may be it for Gunn and his DCU, with one of those cameos possibly being Batman.
A Wonder Woman reveal, even a single scene, would be the a big fan-service swing on that board. Fans reacting to her Collider comments are already landing on the cameo read on their own.
Either way, the math keeps pointing away from the name the trades printed and toward the character our insiders named.
