UPDATE: Shailene Woodley Stuns At Emmys, Still Hasn’t Said A Word About Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers’ two-part sit-down with Cam Heyward keeps producing headlines, and the biggest one left might be about his wife.
In Part 2 of the Not Just Football podcast, released September 10, Rodgers said he met his wife, Brittani, back in 2017, a year before he started dating Danica Patrick and three years before Shailene Woodley.
It’s the same interview where Rodgers disputed Woodley’s account of their broken engagement and responded to Patrick’s “trail of blood” claim.
“I’d Met The Person That Changed My Life”
“In 2017, I met my wife, and at the time she was leaving the States and going back to Europe,” Rodgers said. “And my biggest regret is not begging her to stay or just like proposing right there.”
“Because that sent me into a tailspin of, you know, what can I be accused of as a partner in a relationship?” Rodgers continued. “Like, I was emotionally unavailable, I think, for those seven or eight years, because I’d met the person that changed my life. And after that, I just poured everything I had into football.”
Do the math on that.
Rodgers dated Patrick from 2018 to 2020 and Woodley from late 2020 into 2022. Both relationships sit inside that seven-or-eight-year window.
“I knew I was supposed to be with this one person and I couldn’t. We were separated by an ocean for a lot of it,” Rodgers said. “Then, you know, she was engaged. Then, you know, I got engaged. And luckily for me, we came back together.”

“Then She Got Engaged… And Then I Got Engaged”
Rodgers said Brittani was living in Austin when they met and had gone to the University of Texas. She later moved back to Europe, and the two kept in touch.
“There were a couple times I thought things were going to work out, and then, you know, then she got engaged and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s done,'” Rodgers said. “And then I got engaged and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m done, too.’ But then, you know, obviously she had her own prerogative and took her ring off in 3 months.”
That matches the timeline Rodgers gave for Woodley elsewhere in the episode: proposed in December, ring off by March.
Rodgers revealed in the summer of 2025 that he had gotten married. On the podcast, he confirmed there was no wedding.
“We eloped. So, it was quick,” Rodgers said. “But I had a little something set up when I was over there. Surprise for her. That’s about all I’m going to say about that.”
“Would That Be A Thing If I Had Been A Good Soldier?”
Heyward brought up the online theory that the marriage is made up, telling Rodgers a lot of people act like he doesn’t have a wife.
“I don’t care about anything,” Rodgers said. “Like, would that be a thing if I had been a good soldier and been fully vaccinated?”
Rodgers also credited Brittani for his reconciliation with his estranged family.
“My wife deserves a lot of the credit for that,” he said.
“When you’re loved by someone in such an unconditional and beautiful, pure way, it changes your perspective on all your relationships,” Rodgers said. “It becomes your anchor point… it opens up your heart in a really deeper way that I never experienced before.”
