Aaron Rodgers Responds To Danica Patrick’s “Trail Of Blood” Breakup Story

UPDATE: Aaron Rodgers Says He Met His Wife In 2017: “My Biggest Regret Is Not Proposing Right There”

UPDATE #2: Shailene Woodley Stuns At Emmys, Still Hasn’t Said A Word About Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers finally answered Danica Patrick.

In Part 2 of teammate Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast, released September 10, the Steelers quarterback gave his version of the relationship and the 2020 split, and pushed back hard on what Patrick has said about him.

It’s the same episode where Rodgers disputed Shailene Woodley’s account of their broken engagement. Rodgers says Woodley took the ring off by March.

“There Was No Intimacy. It Was Nothing”

Rodgers opened the subject by lumping both exes together.

“You know, I dated two women who nobody gives a f-ck about unless they drop my name, and they like to say, you know, their version of the history of what actually happened,” Rodgers said. “And so I’m just this, like, you know, monster of a partner.”

Then he got into the Patrick relationship specifically.

“I dated Danica, and she had just retired. She was depressed and not fun to be around. But I didn’t leave her, because I was trying to be there and be a good partner,” Rodgers said. “Then it was going a certain direction. Obviously, there was no intimacy. It was nothing.”

“And I’m buying a house in Malibu, and she goes, ‘Well, do you want to buy it together?’ And I said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘Well, you know what that means then?’ I said, ‘Yeah, that’s the way things are going,'” Rodgers continued. “She said, ‘Well, let’s get counseling.’ So then we got counseling. And then what happened? Then COVID hit, and we’re stuck together.”

The two split in July 2020, a little over two years after going public in January 2018.

“So she tells a story that, ‘I was so blindsided by getting left by you, and he leaves a trail of blood around.’ I’m like, what are you talking about?” Rodgers said. “That is not what happened by any means.”

“I Was Actually A Good Partner, Danica”

Later in the episode, Rodgers delivered a message straight to the exes still bringing him up.

“Number one, stop talking about me. It’s been years — five years. What are you talking about? You’re not relevant,” Rodgers said. “Like, stop talking about me. Move on with your life. Like, live your life.”

“Also, two, you’re lying about what actually happened. Like, I was actually a good partner, Danica. But yeah, I didn’t want to buy any house with you, and I didn’t see a long-term future,” Rodgers continued. “Okay. I don’t wish you any harm unless you’re, you know, throwing spells and shade my way.”

“It Wore Me Down To Nothing”

Rodgers is responding to what Patrick said on a May 2025 episode of The Sage Steele Show. Asked about the most pain she has experienced in her life, Patrick pointed to the 2020 breakup.

Patrick said the relationship was “emotionally abusive” and that it “wore me down to nothing.” She also said Rodgers “leaves a trail of blood.”

People reported at the time of Patrick’s comments that the couple had purchased the Malibu home together.

Rodgers also revealed in the episode that he met Brittani, now his wife, back in 2017 and spent the years that followed “emotionally unavailable” — a stretch that covers his time with both Patrick and Woodley.

The full Part 2 conversation is on Heyward’s YouTube channel.
