Namco Bandai Games released a trailer at the 2011 Video Game Awards for Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
“We are very excited for our fans in the western market to play TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 and experience first-hand all of the improvements we made to the series, many of which were a result of their feedback to previous TEKKEN installments,” said Katsuhiro Harada, TEKKEN Project Director at NAMCO BANDAI GAMES Inc. “The development team has gone to great lengths to ensure our fans have a completely new experience with TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 by adding innovative new features like pair play, a vastly improved online experience, and the largest fighter roster ever. We hope that our fans enjoy the game as much as we have and are looking forward to watching the best fighters from around the world compete in the ultimate battle.”
“With TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2, we set out to create an unparalleled fighting game that not only caters to experienced TEKKEN players, but newcomers as well,” said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. “The team spent a lot of energy and resources to create unique features like Fight Lab and World Tekken Federation. These features will help level the playing field and improve the abilities of both novices and more experienced fighters.”
TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 introduces a completely re-engineered online system, providing one of the most responsive fighting game experiences to hit consoles. Players will also gain free access to World Tekken Federation™, a comprehensive online service that is a first of its kind for the fighting game genre. At launch in North America, fighters will be able to sign up to participate in the World Tekken Federation at http://www.worldtekkenfederation.com/. Once TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 becomes globally available next week, a full list of features will be made accessible so that fighters can analyze their performance against opponents from around the world, improve strategy, view detailed battle history and more.
In another first for the TEKKEN series, TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 will also feature an original song by celebrated hip-hop star Snoop Dogg. With his new song KNOCC ‘EM DOWN, Snoop Dogg prepares players for the next battle in TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2’s legendary King of Iron Fist tournament. Featured in the game and on the original soundtrack, KNOCC ‘EM DOWN blends Snoop’s smooth style with the lethal power of TEKKEN.
To date the TEKKEN series has sold more than 40 million units, making it the most successful and popular fighting game franchise in the world. The development team is continually seeking ways to improve the series and is introducing several ground-breaking new features in TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2. One of these features is Fight Lab, which allows new and experienced players to learn basic and advanced TEKKEN mechanics through a series of stages while being able to customize their own Combot character by purchasing moves from other characters to mix and match into a deadly combat machine. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 also introduces Pair Play, which gives players the ability to play four-player TEKKEN matches with each player controlling a tag combatant. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 also gives players the option of fighting in one-on-one matches and solo fighter vs. a tag-team battle. These new modes provide additional gameplay options for seasoned TEKKEN fans while providing an easier point of access to new players.
